The Tie That Bonds Chapter 4 Amelia had stopped crying and fallen asleep half an
hour ago. Trowa closed his eyes and enjoyed the feeling of the strong
hand caressing his body. As the hand traveled further south, he felt
Heero press his body against his own. At the same time, the familiarly
soft lips kissed along his shoulder and neck. Though right now Trowa
wanted nothing more than to feel Heero making love to him, he knew
he had to stop the seduction. He turned onto his back and was greeted
by passionate kissing. All the while, the hand down the front of his
jeans was taunting and teasing his arousal. "Heero, don't." He whispered once he managed
to pull away. "Why not?" "It doesn't feel right with the kid in here."
Since Hilde dropped off everything else that Amelia needed, they placed
the crib in their bedroom. It was much safer that way. "Trowa, that kid don't know what the hell we're
doing." "Yeah, but. . .I don't feel right doing this."
At that moment the baby woke and started crying. Heero rolled onto
his back, his nerves were wearing thin. Even Sheba groaned and rolled
over in her pet bed. Ever since Heero came home, it seemed that the
baby would start crying whenever they got close. Trowa rolled out
of bed and walked over to the crib. Heero watched as he picked up
Amelia and headed for the door. "Where are you going?" "Downstairs." "Why?" "For one, I think she might want a bottle. . .and
secondly you need to work in the morning. So you should sleep."
"What about you?" "She'll fall asleep sometime." Was all he
said before he left the room and headed to the kitchen. He quickly
prepared a bottle like Hilde had taught him, and tried to present
Amelia with it. She refused and seemed to cry louder. Next he tried
feeding her, but that wasn't the problem either. She didn't need a
change, nor want a pacifier. Everything Trowa tried, she refused.
Suddenly he remembered Hilde saying that babies liked
to be rocked. He picked up the child and headed outside. There wasn't
a rocker in the house, but they did have a glider on the patio. It
was a warm summer night, and the crickets were singing softly as he
sat on the glider and began swaying. After a few minutes, she ceased
crying and was silent. He stared down at her, willing her to fall
asleep, but she didn't. She just looked up at him as if mocking him
for being up at two in the morning to rock her. At that moment, Heero
stepped onto the patio and soaked in the scene before sitting next
to Trowa. "You should be sleeping." Trowa lightly scolded.
"It got just a little too quite down here."
He answered and slid Trowa closer to him. Wrapping his arms around
the thin frame, he continued rocking both Amelia and the Latin. "I'm
sorry about. . ." "Don't worry about it Heero." A comfortable silence fell over them. Heero looked down at the child, glad that she was finally asleep. When his eyes wandered back to Trowa, he wasn't all too surprised that the exhausted surrogate mother was also sleeping. There was something comforting for him about seeing Trowa holding the child. It had hit Heero earlier that day when he walked in and found Amelia asleep on Trowa's chest. He felt it again when the baby was placed in his own arms. He wasn't sure if he liked what he was feeling. As he stared back at the kid, somehow he knew that she was going to be with them a lot longer than either of them would expect. The crying wouldn't stop. If anything it was getting
louder and more annoying. Normally Heero would be able to keep calm,
but right now he was ready to throw the source of the loud noise out
of the window. For the pass week, Trowa had pretty much been taking
care of the baby. It had been Trowa that got up at all hours of the
night to tend to the crying. Rather it was for a bottle, a change,
or just to be held. Tonight was the first night that Heero was left
alone with the child. It had started crying when Trowa left for work
around three and hasn't stopped for the pass hour. Heero had tried everything that he had seen Trowa do
over the pass week, but nothing seem to work. Sheba had been outside
in the rain for the last forty-five minutes just to get away from
the crying. As he stared at the baby laying in the crib, he wondered
why someone hadn't devised a machine that would be able to tell a
baby's thoughts. He couldn't phantom why the kid was endlessly bawling
right now. "Don't you ever get tired of crying?" He wondered
aloud as he glared at the child. As he said this, the door bell rang.
Not wanting to leave the kid alone, he picked her up and carried her
downstairs with him. By the time that he stepped off the bottom step,
silence wrapped around the child. Heero stopped in his tracks and
studied Amelia as she laughed at him. "You think that's funny
you little. . ." The door bell rang again. Shifting the kid to
his left arm, he opened the door to find Duo grinning from ear to
ear. "Hey Heero, what's up? Thought I'd come see you
before Hilde and I head back to Earth." The American asked as
he pushed his way into the house. "How's the papa thing coming
along?" He looked over at the kid as Heero closed the door. "Well,
she's still in one piece. . .that's a good thing." "For who?" Heero snapped and headed into the
kitchen. Duo followed behind in his happy go lucky manner. "I'm guessing not you. You guys been having a hard
time with her?" The braided boy plopped down on a chair in the
kitchen and watched as Heero placed the baby in a high chair. Without
warning, the crying erupted into the room again, just as loudly as
before. "Damn, that kid's got a good set of lungs on her."
"Maybe she just likes you better. I mean, if I
were a baby, I'd cry if I wasn't always in your arms." Heero
glared at the American a moment before turning to the refrigerator
for something to drink. He pulled out two sodas and handed one to
Duo. "Is there a reason that you came over?" "Since when do I need a reason to come over?"
The Japanese boy sat in the seat across from Duo and stared at the
braided guest. "Hey, I was just coming to keep you company. Trowa
won't be home until at least two. I just thought that you could use
some company. . .and a little distraction from the screaming princess
there." The colbat eyes didn't seem to accept the answer. "All
right. You want the truth. . . .Hilde hasn't stopped baby swooning
since she laid eyes on the little brat. Now she wants a kid of her
own." "By you? Poor girl." "No. Not by me. What's wrong with me? I would make
a good dad." "You couldn't take care of a gold fish." "Kids are a lot different from fish. At least I
wouldn't be afraid to hold my kid." "I'm not afraid to hold her." As Heero defended,
Amelia pushed against his cheek with her little hand, all the while
laughing. "He-he." She laughed and continued to pat
his cheek with her hand. "Even she finds that funny Heero." Duo chuckled
as Heero grabbed her hands with his to stop her. "He-he." "She's a happy baby to be living with the two of
you." Sheba stepped into the house through her dog door and looked
up at Heero and the baby. Looking down into the big brown eyes, Heero
realized that he had forgotten to feed the Doberman. He had been so
determined to shut the baby up that he was already half an hour late
feeding Sheba. Wordlessly, Heero stood and handed the baby to Duo.
"Hey, what am I supposed to do with this?" "Can't you just hold her for two minutes, so I
can feed Sheba?" As if to answer the question, the baby started
bawling loudly and wiggling in Duo's arms. "Heero!" "He-he!" She screamed loudly and reached for
Heero. "I don't think she likes me too much." Duo
assured as he tried to calm her by bouncing her on his knee. "How can you blame her?" Heero shot as she
continued crying, and looking over at Heero as he placed dog food
in a dish. Sheba was waiting patiently in her usual feeding spot for
her dinner; the stub of her tail wagging quickly. "Heero, can you come and get her?" "He-he!" "What's the matter super dad? I thought you said
you weren't afraid to hold children?" "I said I wouldn't be afraid to hold my kid. This
isn't my kid. Get her. She's busting my eardrums." "Better yours than mine." "HE-HE!!!" "How can she be crying and laughing at the same time?" Not wanting to hear any more of the crying, Heero took the child from Duo and once again propped her on his arm. The tears continued to fall until she realized where she was; the tears were then replaced by a smile. "It's like a magic trick." The American laughed along with the child. "So how are you going to tell this kid about her monthlies when she gets older?" His answer was a sharp smack on the back of the head. _________________
